KAC honours fallen Masiteng

Hloni Motloung, the chairman of Katlehong Athletics Club (KAC), said he would like to thank the communities of Katlehong and the surrounding areas for embracing the run that was held in memory of late runner Teboho Masiteng on Sunday, August 13.

The 10km run started and ended at Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong.

Motloung said people came in numbers to support the run, including metro police, who were available to ensure the safety of runners on the road.

“Runners came in numbers to participate and donated the amount of R20 per runner as per our request. Others donated more than that. There are those who donated R50, R100 and even more,” said Motloung.

He said all the money raised was given to the Masiteng family.

“Nozipho Majola, who is Masiteng’s wife, received the money on behalf of the family. Majola is also a runner of KAC,” Motloung said.

Majola said KAC is like a family to her.

“They took care of my family. The money is going to make a huge difference since I am unemployed. I am going to be able to pay my children’s school fees and buy school uniform next year,” said Majola.

One of the runners, Benzi Tenza of C16 Club from Sunward Park in Boksburg, said the run went well.

“It was nice, and challenging as well. The routes were clearly marked with marshals and officers in every corner. The water was sufficient at every water point.

“Well done KAC and thank you for inviting us to be part of such a significant initiative,” said Teza.

Another runner, Thabo Malesa from Nedbank Running Club, thanked Motloung and KAC for organising the event.

“Ntate Motloung, ke rata ho leboha (Mr Motloung, I would like to thank you) for acknowledging the soul of a resting soldier. Morning well spent and a very big thank you to the team of KAC for looking out for fellow runners’ families,” said Malesa.

The first group of runners finished their run between 32 and 33 minutes.

Runners enjoyed the route and most requested for it to be turned into a 21km half marathon in future.
