Arrests made in Dumi murder case

The office of the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina, has made public the arrest of suspects believed to be involved in the murder of popular Rhythm City actor and former Idols SA contestant Dumi Masilela.

Masilela was killed during what could have been a botched hijacking incident in Tembisa on Wednesday, August 2. He was immediately rushed to hospital where he later died in the early hours of Thursday morning after succumbing to his gunshot wounds.

He was buried in Kempton Park on Saturday, August 12, in a funeral that was attended by scores of social and media celebrities, as well as friends who came in large numbers to pay their last respects to the young artist and actor who burst into the limelight in the TV series Rhythm City in January 2013.

It was at the funeral that the mayor announced that a team of crack EMPD and SAPS officers had jointly worked around the clock to track down the suspects believed to be involved in Masilela’s murder. The mayor confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

“We have been informed by the EMPD that suspects were apprehended with the help of the community and handed over to the SAPS,” said the mayor. He told mourners that a case was also immediately lodged under the Case No. SAP14108/08/2017.

The mayor conveyed his good wishes to both the EMPD and the SAPS and urged both to continue to work tirelessly together in order to bring the culprits to book. He said the arrests will assist in the gathering of further evidence.
