Police commissioner wants cop killer behind bars

Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lt Gen Deliwe de Lange threatened the jobs of Gauteng detectives if they don’t put WO Sipho Mthethwa’s killers behind bars before his funeral on July 15.

Speaking at WO Mthethwa’s memorial service at Christian Ambassadors Church in Vosloorus on July 12, De Lange said she will bring detectives from other provinces to investigate the case.

“It will mean those detectives will take your jobs if the killer is not arrested by the time of his funeral. I know that he is still in Gauteng. It means you are not doing your job. If a police officer is murdered the police stations must be closed and all the police must be on the streets to look for the killer,” she added.

She said detectives and police officers are supposed to be working day and night looking for the killer.

“Even if it costs you to work overtime it is fine, do so and I will pay you for it,” De Lange said.

She said what angers her most is that WO Mthethwa is the third police officer to be killed by the same criminal.

“The first officer that the criminal in question killed is that one who was killed at Zonkizizwe. The second one was killed in Johannesburg and then WO Mthethwa.”

She said the criminal must be behind the bars by July 14.

“I would like to meet him in person, and look him in the face because there are questions I have to ask him.

“There is no way an untrained criminal can kill three police officers and get away with it just like that. You are well trained, you can’t be beaten by criminals at the game that you can play better,” concluded De Lange.

WO Mthetha’s brother-in-law Walter Mbonambi said the family will be relieved if the police bring the killer behind bars.
