Burglars have their eye on plasma TVs

Katlehong SAPS has issued a warning about a rise in house break-ins in which the criminals are going after plasma TVs.

Communications official at Katlehong Police Station, Capt Mega Ndobe, said community members can help protect their TVs by locking them down with wall brackets.

“I know some people think of the value of their houses and therefore do not want to drill holes into the walls.

“Others might think of the value of their TV and opt not to mount it on the wall because it might not look good.

“But if you hire a professional to wall-mount your TV for you, it will both look good and be safe,” said Ndobe.

“I say this because some of the expensive stolen TVs are not recovered.”

Ndobe said that by working together with the police and promoting the neighbourhood watch, the community can help prevent break-ins.

“Communities are advised to make use of the police sector’s telephone number to report crime. The sector number is 011 617 3706,” he said.
