27 km cambridge soup

Residents of Lindokuhle Home Based Care Centre welcome the Cambridge Food Vosloorus mobile soup kitchen.

As the chilly winter weather hits South Africa, Cambridge Food Vosloorus is warming up the local community with portions of steaming hot soup and hearty fresh bread.

Whenever temperatures plummet, staying warm can be a challenge, particularly for the disadvantaged members of our communities.

That is why Cambridge Food has rolled out a mobile soup kitchen to help the need this winter.

From June 1, August to 31, the Cambridge Food store in Vosloorus will serve its customers free hot soup. The service will alternate and on certain days the soup will be served at non-governmental organisations, Lindokuhle Home Based Care Centre and Onkabetse Care Centre.

At Lindokuhle, approximately 80 elderly people will enjoy piping-hot servings of delicious soup every Wednesday. While at Onkabetse, 125 people, including domestic violence victims – mainly women and children – orphans, children from child-headed households and rape victims will be benefiting from the warm meal served on their doorstep every Thursday.

The rest of the week – Mondays, Tuesday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays – soup will be served at the Cambridge Food store in Vosloorus from 10am to 2pm. As of August 31, soup and bread will be served at:

· Lindokuhle Home Based Care Centre (Wednesdays)

· Onkabetse Care Centre (Thursdays)

· Cambridge Food Vosloorus (every Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm)

Between now until the end of August, as much as 1 800 loaves of bread, 2 520lt of soup and fresh vegetables will be cooked up and handed out to local residents. With this mobile soup kitchen and a season-long commitment, winter will be warmer thanks to Cambridge Food Vosloorus.
