Katlehong Academy searches for talent

Katlehong Academy, a soccer academy that has produced big names in SA football such as Sibusiso Khumalo of Mamelodi Sundowns and Thabo Mosadi of Ajax Cape Town, will hold soccer coaching clinics to search for talent during the winter school holidays.

The talent search will take place at Katlehong Huntersfield Stadium from Monday, July 3, till Sunday, July 23.

Jacob Mhlungu, the organiser and also a coach at Katlehong Academy, said the aim is to give local players an opportunity to play for big teams in SA football.

“Teams like Wits University FC, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Orlando Pirates FC, Kaizer Chiefs FC and Supersport United FC will be send their academy scouts on the day.

“We want players for the following divisions: u-5, u-7, u-9, u-11, u-13, u-15, u-17 and u-19.

“We want 50 players in each category. Those players will be taken to the academies of the above-mentioned teams for further assessment. Those who remain behind will remain part of Katlehong Academy,” said Mhlungu.

He said the following soccer stars will be there to motivate young players on the day: Thabo Mosadi (Ajax Cape Town FC), Sibusiso Khumalo (Mamelodi Sundowns FC), George Maluleka (Kaizer Chiefs FC), Thela Ngobeni (Mamelodi Sundowns FC), Skwama Matete (Baroka FC) and Sifiso Molefe (Black Aces FC).

“The programme will be as follows: soccer basics, small-side games, full games and life skills classes.

“Players must bring their own training equipment, such as soccer boots, guards, socks, shorts as well as water bottles,” said Mhlungu.

He said the gates will open at 7am every day.

“At 7.30am we will start registering players and the training will start 9am. No late registration will be allowed,” said Mhlungu.

He said each player will pay R20 for participating.
