Police team up to nab hijackers

A team effort by police resulted in the successful arrest of two motor vehicle hijackers, aged 23 and 24, on Saturday, May 6.

Communications official at Katlehong Police Station, Capt Mega Ndobe, said the police followed a tracker signal after a VW Polo was stolen in Alexandra.

“The vehicle was chased by Thokoza police from the Thokoza area. Katlehong police came to assist, as the vehicle had crossed over to Katlehong. The police jointly followed the tracker signal until they spotted the vehicle at Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong,” said Ndobe.

He said one of the suspects saw the police and started shooting at them.

“The police returned fire before overpowering and arresting the suspects.

“Both suspects will be charged with possession of hijacked motor vehicle and attempted murder. They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Court soon,” said Ndobe.

The investigation is continuing.
