Communications official at Katlehong SAPS, Capt Mega Ndobe, said the victim’s mother was asleep with her boyfriend inside a shack when she heard a noise from the children’s shack.
“It is alleged that she woke up to check what was happening and when she got into the shack she found the man inside.
“She noticed that her five-year-old girl was half-naked. When she asked what was happening the little girl told her mother what the man (believed to be a relative) was doing to her.
“The police were informed of the incident and went the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital for a check-up whereby a doctor confirmed she had been raped.
“The suspect was arrested by FCS (the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit) on Saturday, April 15, following information from the community members of his whereabouts,” said Ndobe.
He said the suspect will appear in court soon on a charge of rape.
The investigation is continuing.
Ndobe said the police thanked the community members for working with them in solving the case.
