Ekurhuleni to celebrate Hani’s legacy in April

This year marks the 24th anniversary since the murder of the freedom fighter Chris Hani.

To pay tribute to the anti-apartheid leader, the City of Ekurhuleni will continue to roll out programmes that reveal the ideals that Hani stood for.

These include the provision of decent housing, primary health care and alleviation of hunger. The metro conferred the Freedom of the City to Hani in November 2006, and named April the Chris Hani Month.

To kick-start the Chris Hani Month, the metro will convene a wreath-laying ceremony to be attended by a senior delegation of political leaders and Hani family members at the Thomas Nkobi Memorial Park in Boksburg on April 10.

This will be followed by a memorial lecture on Hani at the Boksburg Civic Centre.

The Chris Hani Photographic Exhibition will be opened for public viewing for free, from the April 10 to 30, every day from 9am to 4.30pm and 8am to noon during weekends at Chris Hani’s former home in Dawn Park.
