A young man from Mailula Park, Vosloorus, surprised many when he partnered with his fiancé to open a business of their own.

Wonder Twala (24), the business owner and chairman of UniqueEvent, is also father to a five-year-old daughter, Ntando.

He explained how his entrepreneurial journey began.

“It started when I was attending Fumana Comprehensive School, where I used to sell chocolates and snacks just for fun. I would not lie and say I needed the money. I didn’t feel the need to go out and hustle, because both my parents were working and my upbringing was alright.

“I did it for fun and excitement, but at the end I got rewarded for it. Even today my businesses are not profit driven but service driven,” said Twala.

Sharing with Kathorus MAIL the inspiration behind his company, Twala said it started after he and his fiancé, Zinhle Tshabalala, successfully organised a party for their daughter’s fourth birthday.

“It was not easy, but we worked together to make the party a success. As difficult as it was, we still enjoyed doing it. After the party we learned that we enjoyed working as a team. We then sat down and decided to start a business doing something we both enjoy, which is organising events. That is how the business started,” said Twala.

Twala, who used to work as a journalist and in financial services for a variety of companies, explained more about his service offering.

“We as UniqueEvent bring a different feel to each celebration. We specialise in transforming an ordinary space into something extraordinary. Turning your kid’s party into Disney World, or your baby shower into a breathtaking space. Whatever your dream party is, we cater for it.

“We rent tents, tables, chairs and jumping castles. Our main drive is to grow bigger and to quickly create as many jobs as we possibly can,” said Twala.

Twala said he wants to encourage other young couples, and other young people, to start their own businesses.

“We want to encourage other young parents and tell them that starting your own business is challenging but doable,” said Twala.

Anyone who would like UniqueEvent to organise an event or party for them can contact Twala on 063 257 2795.
