The Katlehong police are investigating an incident of rape that allegedly took place in Likole Section in Katlehong in November.

Capt Mega Ndobe, is the communications officer at Katlehong Police Station, said, “It is alleged that on Tuesday, November 1, a 10-year-old girl was raped by a 56-year-old neighbour. It was only realised on Wednesday, January 4, by the girl’s aunt while the girl was taking a bath.

“The girl told her aunt that a man had been sexually abusing her since November. The victim was then taken to hospital where the rape was confirmed by a doctor. A rape case was then opened on Thursday, January 5, at Katlehong Police Station.

“The suspect, aged 56, was then arrested on Friday, January 6, during the early hours of the morning in Katlehong. The suspect is expected to appear in Palm Ridge court soon on a charge of rape.”

According to the girl’s mother, they are still talking to social workers to try and get help for the little girl.

“My little girl is still traumatised. As I am talking to you, we are going to social workers to get her all the kind of help she needs to heal from the situation she is facing,” she said.

The mother explained to Kathorus MAIL what had happened to her little girl.

“My child told me that the man sent her to buy cigarettes. When she came back with the cigarettes, the man locked the child inside his house, undressed her, put her in bed and penetrated her. She said it happened a number of times in November,” she said.

The mother said they have not yet spoken to the suspect, who lives alone in a house next door, as he is still in police custody.

She also mentioned that she was so glad that the Natalspruit hospital had given her child some medication to prevent HIV.

“The doctors conducted some tests to see if the child was infected with HIV/Aids because of the rape, and the tests came back negative. But we were given dates to return for further tests, as the virus can hide itself until a particular time.”
