Eden Park police arrested a 28-year-old man on Monday, December 12, for allegedly killing his four-year-old daughter.

Katlehong Police Station communications officer, Captain Mega Ndobe, confirmed the incident.

It is alleged that the suspect killed the child after he separated from the child’s mother.

“It is alleged that the suspect then became angry and strangled his daughter to death,” said Capt Ndobe.

This incident occurred in Palm Ridge Ext 2.

The child’s mother spoke to the Kathorus MAIL about her daughter’s final day.

The mother had been in and out of counselling sessions with the father of her child, who had been trying to kill himself after failing to accept their separation.

“He came to ask for our daughter to visit him. I tried to refuse but my child cried for her father and wanted to leave with him. Later he phoned and told me that because I had dumped him, he was going to do a very painful thing that I will never forget. From that moment I feared for my child. I went to the police station in Vosloorus to report the matter, but we stayed there for a very long time as the police took long to respond. By that time I could feel that something was not right.

“Because of delay I decided to leave the police station. I then phoned a relative who stays in the same yard with the father to check if my child was still fine.

“She went to check in the shack and a few minutes later, the relative phoned to tell me that they had found my child’s body inside her father’s shack. It is believed a cable tie was used to strangle her to death,” said the child’s mother.

“As soon as I have the strength I will look him in the eye and ask him to tell me what my child’s last words were,” said the mother.

According to Detective Warrant Officer Morris Matshaba, from the Eden Park Police Station, the suspect handed himself over at the Klip Rivier Police Station.

“The investigation then started immediately and the suspect was arrested.”

Ndobe also said the suspect is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Court soon to face a charge of murder.
