Fans demand justice for Meyiwa

Angry Orlando Pirates and South African football supporters marched to Vosloorus Police Station on Wednesday, October 26.

This day marks the second year since Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa died.

His killers are still roaming free on the streets.

According to Modise Thutloa, the chairman of the Gauteng branches of Orlando Pirates, the case has dragged on for far too long.

“We would have loved the case to be treated with respect and dignity like the case of Oscar Pistorius.

“We are not interested in what those involved in the case are saying to the media because we are not sure if they are telling the truth, but rather appear in court and speak under oath.

“This case is one of the easiest because everything happened at the same place and under one roof and people who can lead the cops to the murderer are known.

“The evidence is there, even the weapon that was used is with the cops and its owner is known,” said Thutloa.

Even though the supporters were angry, the march proceeded peacefully from Vosloorus Sports Ground to Vosloorus Police Station, where the memorandum was handed over to police commissioner Brig Themba Denge. On receiving the memorandum Denge said he was going to take it his superiors for further investigation.

“Whatever is mentioned in this memorandum will receive feedback.

“As the police we are against what happened but the matter is not dealt with here at Vosloorus but at provincial level,” said Denge.
