Three die in separate incidents

Firefighters, paramedics and the SAPS responded swiftly to a drowning incident at the Boksburg Lake at around 3.15pm on Saturday afternoon, March 5, after a male patient allegedly fell into the water and drowned while sitting with friends under the tree next to the lake.

Specialised water rescue divers were called to the scene and the body was immediately retrieved from the water. Unfortunately, paramedics declared the patient dead on the scene.

An inquest docket has been opened with the police.

Meanwhile two other male patients were declared dead on scene in a separate incident in the Joe Slovo informal settlement near Reiger Park in Boksburg. A rescue team from the Boksburg central fire station responded to a call at about 9.40pm.

On arrival at the scene, it was found that a vehicle was involved in an accident and the team later learnt that a sedan vehicle with two occupants crashed into a tavern, injuring six people. Two of the injured males were declared dead by the paramedics, while five others sustained critical injuries. The driver escaped with minor injuries. All the casualties were transported to OR Tambo hospital for further medical care.

The incident is being investigated by the police.
