Water ban lifted in Ekurhuleni

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has relaxed the water restrictions in the Metro

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has lifted water restrictions implemented to curb the water shortages experienced in Gauteng.

With stable reservoir levels the municipality has been able to ease the restrictions.

“Reservoir levels are currently operating above 70 per cent and therefore we are in a position to lift the total ban on irrigation and filling of swimming pools,” says the Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

“Instead, we will be implementing time-bound restrictions whereby no irrigation activities should take place between 08:00 and 16:00,” he continued.

Gadebe, however, cautioned consumers to remain active partners in water conservation and to utilise the scarce resource sparingly.

“Although the situation has improved, we still urge residents to abide by water conservation measures such as refraining from utilising hosepipes to water their gardens, wash their cars and paved outdoor areas, especially between 08:00 and 16:00,” emphasized Gadebe.

Consumers are also urged to repair leaks on their properties, and report those that require the municipality’s attention to the municipal services call centre number on 086 054 3000.
