3 000 Ekurhuleni homes wrecked by the storm

The recent severe storms and strong winds have left at leaset 3 000 homes in Ekurhuleni damaged.

JOHANNESBURG – According to a report by Eyewitness News (EWN), “Severe storms and strong winds have hit the province this week, causing damage to a number of households, especially in Ekurhuleni, where at least 3 000 homes were damaged.”

Kathorus MAIL reported, “A number of homes in Kathorus were damaged by the rain and hail on November 16.”

On Wednesday, November 18, the South African Weather Service has issued another warning of a hailstorm in some parts of Gauteng in the afternoon.

According to reports, the Weather Service says rainfall is expected to intensify.

Forecaster Bransby Bulo was quoted by EWN to have said, “There are active storms in the north, in areas like Warmbaths, the western parts of Limpopo and the eastern parts of the North West province. So, those storms could move into Gauteng and the eastern parts later this afternoon.”

On Tuesday, Johannesburg Emergency Services issued a warning for further hailstorms in the city this week and urged young children to stay away from areas prone to flooding.

It says the powerful hailstorm that swept across the city and its surroundings has led to a fatal car crash, severe damage to homes, vehicles and mass evacuations.
