Chief Mluleki Jali, of the Batlokwa, has announced the establishment of a Traditional Council for the Gauteng east region.

The council will be known as the Gauteng East Traditional Council (GETC) and, according to Jali, its role will be to bridge the gap between urban communities and their traditional communities in the rural areas while interacting with representatives of the kings and chiefs of the different tribal groupings in the country. The chief enjoys a regular slot on the local community radio station where he engages listeners on different issues around culture, heritage and traditions.

“A lot of people, especially the young and so-called “modern generation” are completely in the dark when it comes to issues that relate to their history, culture, heritage and traditions”, lamented the cultural guru.

Jali hopes the council will also be a source of information for people who wish to know more and understand their different tribal traditions and cultures.

He said one of the new GETC’s main objectives is to use the Ditsilane Cultural Village for cultural events around Kathorus.
