Stoneridge gives a massive cheer for Rhema

Richard Carelse, Rhema’s former Afrikaans teacher and now the headmaster of Stoneridge Primary School nearly jumped through the roof when it was announced Rhema reached the top 10.

EDEN PARK – Eden Park is excited beyond belief after Rhema Varrie’s inclusion in the top 10 of IdolsSA.

Richard Carelse, Rhema’s former Afrikaans teacher and now the headmaster of Stoneridge Primary School says: “When it was announced that Rhema was in the top 10 I nearly jumped through the roof.

“People streamed into the streets shouting and laughing. It was a wonderful experience. If we could bottle that feeling and sell it, we would”.

Richard says it means a lot to the community that such a talented youngster who grew up and went to school in Edenpark, is now shining on the Idols stage. “It brings hope to the youth of Eden Park. They look at Rhema and think, if he can do it so can I.”

According to Richard, Rhema was a diligent and hardworking pupil who always showed respect to everyone. “We already knew at school that Rhema would be successful but we did not know the extent of it. He showed a lot of talent and history is being made in Eden Park,” says Richard

He wants to encourage young people to work hard and stay dedicated towards reaching their dream. “This will be the difference between you and the next person.”
