Watch out for these tricksters

Tricksters stole an Eden Park pensioner brother's first grant money in Alberton.

EDEN PARK – Eva Alfreds (62) and her brother, who had just received his first grant money went to Alberton to buy groceries but were robbed of their monies by tricksters.

Alfreds said clever tricksters took the sibling’s money in a quick scam.

“My brother had been waiting for months to receive his first grant and he was excited when he finally did receive it.”

According to Alfreds when they disembarked from a taxi at Shoprite in Alberton, an unknown man passed them and smeared some wet substance on her arm before disappearing between the parked vehicles.

“Suddenly a second guy appeared from nowhere saying the first man took all his money by only touching him.”

The man then stopped a vehicle with two occupants who he said were police and could help and protect them from the criminals and that they needed to get into the vehicle.

“The driver asked me to check if I still had the money with me and then asked for the cash and put it in a safe envelope to hide it again.”

Once the brother and sister were in the supermarket, Alfreds opened the envelope and found only paper inside.

“Please warn all the pensioners about these tricksters,” said a tearful Alberts.
