Mob Justice: You can run but you cannot hide

Thokoza residents took the law in their own hands and handed down mob-justice when a suspected thief was subjected to a public beating on Sunday, August 23.

THOKOZA – It is alleged that the man was caught stealing tekkies and, according to bystanders, who did not want to be named, he is well-known for stealing in Thokoza Extention One.

The man was identified as allegedly being one of the most wanted thugs in Thokoza.

Some residents wanted their possessions, that he had allegedly stolen, to be returned.

A young girl who spoke to the Kathorus MAIL claimed that the man had stolen six cellphones from her house, as well as a sound system and bags.

After suffering a severe beating he pretended to be dead, hoping that the crowd would stop the attack, but some residents continued striking him until he started bleeding and sustained some broken bones.

The angry community also took their time before calling the police, saying they had taken the law into their own hands in the belief that ”these thugs get arrested, but always come back the next day”.

The suspect told the police that he had done nothing wrong, but, he was found with the tekkies he was accused of stealing.

Members of the community claimed that this was not the first time he was beaten for the crimes of which he was accused.

A case has been opened and is being investigated by the police.
