Mandela Day: Ward 49 gives elderly food parcels

Members of ward 49 in Kathlehong handed out free food parcels to the elderly on Saturday, July 18.

KATLEHING – Scores of elderly citizens and their families gathered at the Katlehong Art Centre in Phoko Section to celebrate Mandela Day.

Jackson Makaleng, one of the co-organisers, told Kathorus MAIL that the food parcels were distributed to disadvantaged senior citizens who earn less that R3 000 per month.

“As a ward we are glad to be hosting a Mandela Day event and to be handing out food parcels to the aged.

“The purpose of this event is to show the elders of the community that we still love and appreciate them,” said Makaleng.

“We hope to continue Mandela’s legacy of caring and embracing our people”, said co-organiser, Alinah Masoka.
