WARNING: Three signs that may lead to teenage suicide

Following an incident where Klara Götterts (14) went missing, the mother of a teenage girl who was found dead at the Northgate Mall has confirmed to Eyewitness News that she committed suicide.

The teenager, Klara Götterts (14) body was found on Tuesday night after she was found near entrance four. Her mother, Liesle Göttert reported her missing earlier in the day when she failed to return home from school.

On Tuesday, the Comaro CHRONICLE reported the girl as missing, followed by a report that she had died.

According to a report by Radio 702, “Klara’s personal notebook revealed how she died, according to Liesle.”

Following an interview with Radio 702 with Dr Eddie Wolff, about factors that could contribute to a teenager committing suicide, it was reported that ‘teenage suicide is usually a result of an inability to cope with depression, which leads to an impulsive action’.

Dr Wolff was reported to have said, “If we see a depressed teenager, we must take it very seriously. It’s not just moodiness.”

Three signs parents should look out for:
  1. Increased moodiness and increased quietness
  2. Withdrawn behaviour - including irritability and negativity
  3. Withdrawal from peer group or appearing excluded from peers

When these signs are in place, parents should take the child to your nearest doctor to determine suicidal potential and referral to mental health specialists.
