VIDEO: Eden Park’s singing sensation tears into judge’s heart

When 20 year old Rhema Warrie from Edenpark auditioned for Idols SA, a tearful Unathi Msengana said; “You tore into my heart.”

ALBERTON- When 20-year-old Rhema Varrie from Edenpark auditioned for Idols, a tearful Unathi Msengana said: “You tore into my heart.”

Unathi added that only the greatest artists have the ability to be vulnerable in front of an audience and she felt that in Rhema.

Rhema, who grew up in Edenpark and attended Stoneridge Primary, Edenpark High and then the National School of Arts for three years, works as a financial controller to support his family. He studied through UNISA after school.

He started singing at the tender age of 10 and also plays the piano, guitar and drums.

“My whole family supports me and motivates me to grow as a musician. My younger brother Larry and I have been involved in music from a young age.”

When asked why he decided to enter Idols SA, Rhema says: “My life is music. Idols has given me the greatest opportunity to show to South Africa and everyone I know and don’t know, my great passion, desire and ability to perform as a musician. I believe I have much to give to the music industry. South Africa has a lot of opportunity for young and upcoming artists.”

Rhema has been writing his own songs and he enjoys creating lyrics which express his feelings. “The end result is often very rewarding and encouraging.” he adds.

He has stayed in the South his entire life and when he is not relaxing with his family he enjoys spending time at the Glen, watching movies and eating out.

When asked about his Idol experience so far, Rhema said: “I’m not sure words can exactly describe this amazing journey. Some words that can describe the feeling would include intoxicating, nerve-wrecking, fun, time of my life and an unforgettable experience.”

His advice to anyone thinking of entering Idols is to go out and have fun. “You have nothing to lose. If your passion truly is music, work hard, always believe in yourself, never stop practicing, and above all enjoy the ride; it could be life changing. I love Olive Wendell Holmes’s quote: ‘It’s faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes life worth living.’ I truly believe life is full of opportunities. Opportunity comes to those who are ready for it.”
