Gauteng cycling time trial commences

Gauteng time trial results.

The weekend of January 15 and 16 saw the Gauteng time trial and road race taking place at the Circus Café just outside Meyerton.

Team Honeycomb Pro cycling competing with both its Young elite and VA team saw it finishing Saturday’s individual time trial event, with Jason Eggett taking third place in the u-23s. The VA category saw Kyle Mitchell in second and Casper Moodie taking the Gauteng championship title for 2022.

Sunday’s road race comprised of eight laps for the elite riders, covering 176km and the VA’s six laps covering 132km.

Racing was hard from the beginning with the wind playing a big factor and teams eager to start the season on a high.

Team Honeycomb, well-represented in both categories, saw Honeycomb rider and Cape Argus winner Travis Barret rounding off the podium in third place and Ricardo Broxam taking second place in the u-23s.

The VA race saw two Honeycomb riders fighting it up front to the finishing line, with Lyall Hennessey taking the win for Honeycomb and Casper Moodie making it a double podium weekend with a third-place spot.

The team is well underway with preparations for the 2022 season with a South African championship just a couple of weeks away.
