Rossouw achieves success in police mountain bike competition

Ten teams, including nine provinces and the head office in Pretoria, took part in this year’s SAPS National Mountain Bike Championships in the Northen Cape.

The mountain bike race started on Saturday, August 19, and finished on Friday, August 24, in Kimberley.

Altogether 150 participants, females and males, participated in the event.

Communication official at Vosloorus Police Station, Capt Piet Rossouw, who is also a member of Route 42 Cycling Club Nigel, and Warrant officer Willie Coetzee from Ratanda Police Station, participated in the tournament.

Rossouw, commenting on his success, said the event was fast-paced and took place in rocky, sandy and thorny conditions

Coetzee, who finished fourth, received a consolation prize in the four-day stage championship. His partner Rossouw did well in his age division, earning medals at every stage of the tournament – two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Rossouw thanked God for his achievement.

“If I recall the accident I sustained last year while doing road cycling, and was hospitalised for more than a week, I never thought I would be this fit again. For me to be chosen to represent the province at a national level and come back with so many medals, is a great experience,” said Rossouw.
