Two from VCC make Superman Sporting Team

Two players from the Vosloorus Cricket Club (VCC) were selected to play for Superman Sporting Team.

The duo, Sibusiso Sibiya from Lethulwazi Secondary School and Kagiso Moshikaro from Erasmus Monareng School, were selected during the Olympic Paints Trials on June 2 in Alberton.

The one-day trials u-12, u-14 and u-17 were hosted by the Erasmus Monareng School.

Isaac Phele from the VCC said the purpose of the trials was to select young black cricket players and award them with scholarships.

“There are few black cricket players in this country. We know that there are black talented people out there. So the reason why there are such trials is because we want to identify that talent,” said Phele.

A total of 14 young cricketers were spotted by the scouts o the day.

“In addition, those cricket players were also awarded with scholarships,” said Phele.

Phele thanked his coaching partners at VCC, namely Moses Thatelo, Mlungisi Mnisi and Sbusiso Mfaba for a wonderful job they are doing in coaching the team.

Thatelo said he is excited that two of their players were selected.

“We as VCC were not expecting this. There were very talented players during the trials. To have the two means we are doing a great job as VCC,” said Thatelo.

He said the hard work of their players is paying off.

The 14 players who were selected are going to play in the Lenasia Premier League starting towards the end of July.

Thatelo said the dates are yet to be confirmed.
