VLFA leave opponents in the dust

The Vosloorus Local Football Association (VLFA) squad won the Engen Play-offs that were played at Marks Park in Emmarentia from Saturday, May 5, to Sunday, May 6.

Five teams, VLFA Squad, Dlamini Academy, Mid-stream Academy, ETS Academy and Wits Futsal FC, took part in the competition.

VLFA played two games each day. On Saturday they played against Mid-stream Academy and won 3-0. They also beat ETS Academy 3-0 on Saturday. On Sunday they played to a 0-0 draw against Dlamini FC and won 3-0 against Wits Futsal FC.

They scored nine goals and collected more points (10) than the rest of the teams in the group, keeping them at the top.

VLFA team chairperson Jabu Nkosi said they now qualify for the main Engen Tournament that will be played over three days, from Friday, July 27, until Sunday, July 29, at the same venue.

“Sixteen teams will take part in that tournament. The teams will be divided into four groups, with each group having four teams in it. The top two teams in each group will play in the quarter-finals,” said Nkosi.

He said playing in the Engen Tournament will be good for the players’ development because they will be competing with the other best players from the region.

His choice of best players in the play-offs were Mangaliso (Dona) Mokgethi (captain) and Lesiba (Zizo) Motloung.
