KAC trains for Comrades

Katlehong Athletics Club (KAC) hosted its 60km training run on Friday, April 27, to prepare for the Comrades Marathon.

The run to Heidelberg started at the Chris Hani Mall at 5am and finished at the same venue.

The route followed the Old Heidelberg Road, which offers a similar run to the Comrades’ down-run.

Runners from the Kathorus area and surrounds who will be participating in this year’s Comrades Marathon on June 10 came in their numbers to join the run.

KAC chairman Hloni Motloung said: “I am very excited about the support from other athletics clubs. I would like to thank Kathorus MAIL as well. The turnout of runners was as good as it was thanks to Kathorus MAIL.”

He said the run was not about the results.

“But I can confirm that Johannes Mthimkhulu, who runs for Gallopers Athletics Club from Phumula Gardens, finished first,” he added.

All the runners, including the inexperienced ones, thanked KAC for supporting them until the finishing line.

KAC used the run to honour Isaac Mabula, the legendary runner who will be completing his 29th Comrades race this year.
