Ezenkosi paves a way to a promotional play-off spot

Ezenkosi registered their third win in a row and boosted their chances of a play-off spot as they beat Tshakuma Tsha (TTM) 3-1 in a National First Division (NFD) League game on April 8 at Vosloorus Stadium.

Lefa Hlongwane played a crucial part in this home win for Ezenkosi. He laid an assist in the first two goals scored by Teboho Mabula and Ananias Gebhardt and then scored the third goal himself.

Ezenkosi were dealt a huge 30 minutes after the game started as their star midfielder and a dribbling wizard Scelo Mkhize limped off the field because of an ankle injury.

Mkhize’s injury was a blessing in disguise for the young sensation Bafana Tshawe who is also a u-20 international player. He was introduced to Mkhize’s place and he did not disappoint.

Ten minutes after the start of the second stanza, Ezenkosi suffered another injury when their right back Siphenathi Leqwala was taken off the pitch on a stretcher and was replaced by Teboho Mabula.

Jomo Sono, the coach and the Cosmos boss, was delighted with the win.

“The faith I have shown in young talented players like Tshawe has paid off good dividends. He has shown what he is made off. He did not disappoint,” said Sono.

This was Tshawe’s debut game for Ezenkosi.

The win on Sunday will see Ezenkosi moving to the third position with 42 points after 26 games. They are two points behind the log chasers, Black Leopards. While TTM remains in the sixth position.
