Pre-schoolers excel in cricket league

Bahlengeni Pre-school in Vosloorus recently recognised its learners who performed at their utmost best in the KFC Pre-schools League.

Bahlengeni Pre-school is one of 10 pre-schools from around Vosloorus township that took part in the league.

Reneilwe Rakitla (5), Mragi Mnyakeni (5) and Katleho Kunene (5) scooped most of the awards at the ceremony, which took place at Vosloorus Old Age Home recently.

Four pre-schools from the top of the league, including Bahlengeni Pre-school, were invited to the KFC Cricket Annual Festival at Sahara Park Willowmoore in Benoni.

Bahlengeni Pre-school got 78 runs, followed by Khanyisa Pre-school with 67 runs.

Teddy Bears Pre-school followed in third place with 53 runs, while Sunshine Pre-school was in fourth place with 42 runs.

Isaac Phele, a cricket development coach from Vosloorus, said each pre-school played nine games.

“The pre-schools played among each other.

“There were home games and away games.

“The total of all runs in all the games played determined the winners,” said Phele.

Girly Erasmus, the principal at Bahlengeni Pre-school, explained which awards were given to the different learners.

“Mragi was awarded for being the best bowler and batsman and for being the coach in the absence of the coach.

“Katleho was awarded for being the best fielder.

“Reneilwe was awarded for being the best bowler as well and for coaching,” said Erasmus.

She said Mragi and Reneilwe did a good job in managing the team in the absence of their coach.

“No wonder we excelled in the league,” she exclaimed.

She added that the trio is also good academically.

“Especially Mragi – he is the overall best performer, while Reneilwe excels in languages and in dance and movement activities,” she said.

Learners were awarded trophies and medals.
