Community unites on fitness day

A multi-code sporting event called Kasi Thon was held in Thokoza recently to encourage a healthy lifestyle among members of the community.

The games, including volleyball, basketball and netball, were played at the Sam Ntuli Sports Complex.

Two volleyball teams (Set-to-kill and Spikers), two basketball teams (Young Legends and Thokoza Dynamite) and seven netball teams competed on the day.

The netball teams were (u-15s): Lovers Girls, ZK, Thokoza Divas and Dream Team; and (u-19s): Thokoza Divas, ZK and Siyaphambili.

Organiser Fani Banda was excited about the support shown by the community members.

He said the aim was to encourage healthy lifestyles within the community.

“We also used the opportunity to raise awareness against the use of dangerous drugs by the youth. We want them to know that drugs are not good for their health.”

The results of the games were as follow:

· Volleyball: Set-to-kill defeated Spikers 10-5.

· Basketball: Young Legends defeated Thokoza Dynamite 16-10.

In the netball u-15 mini-league, Lovers Girls won all three of their games to take top spot, followed by ZK with two wins and one loss. Thokoza Divas came third with one win and two losses, while Dream Team lost all three of their games to remain rooted at the bottom of the log.

In the netball u-19 mini-league, Siyaphambili won both their games to occupy top spot, while ZK took second position with a win and a loss. Thokoza Divas lost both their games to occupy bottom place.

The top teams in each category won a set of balls and netball kit.
