Jomo Cosmos enjoys home ground advantage

Jomo Cosmos (Ezenkosi) came from a goal down to defeat Black Leopards (Lidoda Duvha) 2-1 in an exciting NFD game in Vosloorus on Sunday.

Both teams played exciting and aggressive football that kept spectators on their toes for the entire 90 minutes.

Cosmos took away the three points at stake and moved to position three on the log table. They are two points behind Highland Park who are number one on the log standings.

All teams have played 10 games so far going into the international break.

Ezenkosi who are going to play their next away game with Stellenbosch FC have won four of their five home games since they returned to Vosloorus.

Lidoda Duvha – the visitors – scored in the first 35 minutes after the game started with Xolani Ndlovu’s kick who kicked the ball past Cosmos keeper, Kind Ndlovu.

The goal should have silenced the home crowd but instead the crowd kept on singing and cheering for their team.

The score was still 1-0 at the end of the first stanza with visitors enjoying the upper hand. The home side came back stronger in the second half.

A few minutes after the start of the second half, Ezenkosi introduced Mmseni Ndlovu. His introduction allowed the home side midfielders to penetrate the visitors’ defence more.

Ezenkosi found the back of the net in the 70th minute through Linda Mntambo who fired a shot into the back of the net after receiving a pass from Silas Maziya.

Sicelo Mkhize came with the second goal in the dying minutes of the regular time. Mkhize found his way through a couple of defenders and fired a shot beating Adelbola Aifimi the Lidoda Duvha goalkeeper.

The scores was 2-1 in favour of the home side.

Dr Jomo Sono, the owner of Jomo Cosmos, had this to say about his team turning the tables around in the second half.

“After seeing that the initial plan was not working, we had to come up with plan B. We had to make some tactical changes – bring in more attacking players as our initial plan did not allow us to make threats in their box,” said Dr Sono.

Cosmos have won four of the five NFD matches at home since they returned to Vosloorus Stadium following previous victories against Real Kings (2-1), University of Pretoria (5-1), Richards Bay FC (1-0) and Black Leopards (2-0). They only drew 1-1 against Uthongathi FC.

The next Cosmos game is away against Stellenbosch FC at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on November 19.
