Community gets together for fitness day

A sporting event called Kasi Thon - consisting of cycling, walking and running was held in Thokoza to encourage a healthy lifestyle among members of the community.

The 5km walk, 10km run and 28km cycle started out from and ended at the Sam Ntuli Sports Complex on Sunday, November 5.

“We also used the opportunity to raise awareness against dangerous drugs. We want the youth to take charge of their own lives and know that drugs are bad for their health. We also wanted to introduce new sports codes – like cycling and running for gogos – to the community,” said event coordinator Fani Banda from Egagasini Children and Youth Foundation.

The results were as follows:

Men’s 10km run

Women’s 10km run:

2. Lebohang Maoka from Ubuhle Athletic Club

3. Mayande Klaas from Ubuhle Athletic Club

4. Ntsiki Myeki

Men’s 5km walk:

1. Eric Modise

2. Thomas Shoko

3. Sechaba Modise

Women’s 5km walk:

1. Rethabile Nkabinde

2. Naledi Morallana

3. Khanyisile Maruping

4. Thandeka Magwaza

Gogos who finished in the top five in the 5km walk were as follows:

2. Mitta Malibuko (66)

3. Molieia Phakoe (72)

4. Sarah Mtshali (64)

5. Joice Mthembu (72)

Nkosinathi Mokgosi came first in the cycling event.
