GALLERY: Parents pleased about children returning to school

Parents came in numbers and were pleased to see Covid-19 regulations are being adhered to at the school.

As children began the 2021 school year on February 15, Kathorus MAIL visited Chivirikani Primary School to observe how the first day unfolded.

It was a hectic yet beautiful moment for shy Grade One learners who are attending school for the first time this year. Parents came in numbers and were pleased to see Covid-19 regulations are being adhered to at the school.

We spoke to parents to get an idea of what their concerns are given that children are going back to school during the pandemic.

Itumeleng Tekane said they are afraid of the virus but there is a need for education. She said they just hope government will support the schools with everything they need for children and teachers to always be protected.

Thoko Mathebula said as a parent she is happy that her son is going to school, but she is a bit concerned.

“If children wear their masks full-time, keep a social distance and use sanitisers, there will be no challenges,” said Mathebula.

Ntombi Thobeka, who was accompanying her four siblings, said she is happy that children are going back to school because at school they can implement the same protocols they use at home.
