New manager aims to transform Vosloorus Society for Care of the Aged

The newly appointed manager, Keneiloe Modise, aims to revitalize Vosloorus Society for Care of the Aged. Seeking donations to support over 290 senior citizens.

The recently appointed manager of Vosloorus Society for Care of the Aged, Keneiloe Modise (36), is keen on transforming the village.

Modise, who took up the position on April 22, possesses various qualifications.

In an exclusive interview with Kathorus Mail, she mentioned she was involved in charity drives and worked at several NPOs before she started working at the home for the elderly.

“I am also a businesswoman. I have my own businesses, am the deputy chairperson of Kathorus Khotso Tourism and am a member of other entrepreneurship empowerment organisations. One of those organisations is the Kathorus Business Chamber.

“For me, taking up this responsibility is a calling. My grandmother, who passed away, raised me. When I was still young, she emphasised the importance of caring for older adults and respecting them,” Modise stated.

She said she took up the job as a way of giving back to her grandmother and the elderly mothers at the home.

“My objective is to redeem the relationship we once had with our main sponsors. We are facing a dry season wherein we cannot afford to feed the elderly in the home and other elderly citizens in various communities of Kathorus.

She mentioned they get funding from the Gauteng Department of Social Development, which was not enough to run the home and roll out other charity drives in the communities of Kathorus.

“The home caters for more than 290 residents and also non-resident senior citizens around Kathorus. The home employs more than 40 staff members who serve the home in various capacities. This includes home caregivers, cooking staff, cleaners, and nursing staff. That is why we need more donations and sponsors.

“In the home, we run three programmes for the senior citizens. We have the old age home which accommodates up to 63 senior citizens, the home-based care services that involve providing health care services to about 130 senior citizens in the community and a luncheon club which provides breakfast, lunch and materials for extra-mural activities for about 115 senior citizens in the community,” she explained.

She added the home needed donations of food, sanitary items for the elderly, detergents, and gym equipment, including a good Samaritan that will help them pay the village’s municipal bills.

Anyone who wants to donate or sponsor the home and its activities should call Modise on 073 071 1638/010 109 2010 or email: manager@vosloorusoldage.co.za
