Child welfare educates community

Boksburg Child Welfare encouraged community members to protect children and report child abuse during a child abuse awareness programme in Vosloorus.

Boksburg Child Welfare (BCW), Vosloorus office, held a child abuse programme themed It takes a community to raise a child at Ke-Ditselana Cultural Village, Vosloorus, on October 6.

The programme aimed to educate community members to say ’no’ to child abuse.

The BCW invited various stakeholders to address the community of Ext 20, Vosloorus, on factors contributing to child abuse, issues like violence, emotional and sexual abuse and undocumented children.

According to the BCW supervisor of the Vosloorus branch, Zama Ntinga, they invited various organisations to address the community.

Amongst the stakeholders responding to the invitation were Jabulile Sithole from the Department of Home Affairs, Jane Zwane from POWA, and Francinah Mhlanga from the Asibavikele project.

Sithole spoke about registering children and the importance of doing so at the Department of Home Affairs. She also attended to cases raised and responded to the community on the challenges they reported.
Zwane focused on how their organisation could help empower women.

Mhlanga shared how they assist families of those infected and affected with HIV/Aids through home visits and support groups.

Ntinga encouraged the community to keep taking good care of their children, not for financial gain but to ensure the well-being of the children.

She further advised the youth to use all available opportunities to gain experience and build a better future.

The BCW is grateful to all the stakeholders and community members for responding to the call and encouraging co-operation.

To report child abuse, call the Vosloorus BCW office on 011 075 3213 or visit them on the corner of Mokhehle and Tsoke streets, Sotho section, Vosloorus.
