Man nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm
A 23-year-old Vosloorus resident is expected to appear after he was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The EMPD Specialised Task Team (STT) and other stakeholders arrested a 23-year-old male suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm, in the early hours of August, 31, in Vosloorus.
According to EMPD media liaison officer Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the 23-year-old male was found in possession of a black Glock 17 with defaced serial numbers, at a residence on Mathebela Street.
“The officers proceeded to check with the control room and the firearm was found to be unlicensed,” said Thepa.
She said EMPD received information from a whistleblower about an individual committing various offences in the community using a firearm.
“The offender was immediately arrested and taken to Vosloorus police station, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
He is expected to appear at the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court.
