Katlehong NPOs launch Heritage Day competition

Entries for the competition close on September 15.

Isiziba Sempilo Community Development (ISCD) and stakeholders invited interested people to a Heritage Day competition event at the former old age home in Maphanaga Section on September 23.

ISCD partnered with Jikekasi Arts and Crafts (JAC), True Nation Drop-in Centre (TNDC) and Technicon to arrange the event.

The organisers seek individuals and groups to participate in traditional dance, drama, poetry, fashion, netball and a five-a-side soccer competition.

The marketing manager of JAC, Cynthia Jabulile Tshabalala (24), said the event aimed to launch ISCD and raise funds while celebrating Heritage Day.

“We hope to become a household name in our community as an organisation that raises awareness around environmental issues and skills development,” said Tshabalala.

Competition entries close on September 15. Interested people pay R150 for registration. To enter, call JAC on 076 471 3827 or 072 561 9342.

The event will run from 08:00 to 20:00. Winners in all the categories will get a trophy, certificate and cash prize of R800 for first place, R450 for second and R250 for third.

ISCD is an NPO established by Siyanda Makiwane and Maipato Masiea last March. It focuses on environmental issues while raising a society fully conscious of the environment’s well-being and endeavours to protect it at all costs.

They frequently host cleaning campaigns, capacitate the community with skills and information, plant trees, do agricultural projects and recruit community members to be environmental activists and ambassadors.

The executive of ISCD includes chairperson Masiea; deputy chairperson Makiwane; treasurer Penelope Phalane; secretary Andile Buthelezi and vice-secretary Mnguni Moiloa.
