Blaze engulfs Alrode factory

Eight fire stations contain blaze at factory

An Alrode paper recycling company caught alight on July 23.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) southern region firefighters attended the scene.

Eight fire stations with a fleet of 10 fire engines and 40 firefighters responded.

Upon arrival, DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said massive structures were well alight and flames were spreading across to workshops.

“Defensive fire suppression was initiated for protection of unburned materials and buildings. It is alleged that the cause of the fire was as a result of grass outside the premises that burned under the perimeter fence,” he explained.

He said two trucks and a forklift suffered extensive damage.

The fire was contained.

“No casualties were accounted on the scene between the company’s personnel and firefighting teams. The operation continued through the night towards the early hours of the morning,” Ntladi said.
