KHB bags three points during regional league fixture
Half-time talks boosted Katlehong Brothers FC’s confidence after a slow start in the U17 SAFA Ekurhuleni Regional League fixture.
Katlehong Brothers FC (KHB) bagged three points against Vosloorus side, Over Flow FC, after a 3-2 win during the U17 SAFA Ekurhuleni Regional League at Huntersfield on July 15.
Over Flow took the lead in the first half after Ntuthuko Masondo scored the opening goal, and Banele Masuku extended it from the penalty spot, leaving the home team chasing the game.
According to coach Timothy Makgabutlane of KHB, the players effectively applied instructions after the first half.
Katleho Rammutla gave hope to his teammates when he scored the first goal for KHB, followed by an equaliser by Ratolaka Ntabe. Lehlohonolo Morajane closed off the game with the winning goal.
The chairperson of Overflow FC, Thato Matebesi, said their overall performance was good but not good enough to help them win the match.
“We created chances but could not convert them. The team that scores the most wins the match. I feel we dominated the game well, but the results were not on our side,” Matebesi.
After the recent loss, he said they were at position six on the log table, highlighting their disorganised defence and poor communication as contributing factors that cost them the game.
“Those are the two things we must work on as a team, and converting our chances. We have to work on our finishing and defensive structure during training.”
Makgabutlane said their opponents were tough, and took the lead first, but, overall, it was a great game.
“It was tough. We had to come back from behind. I thank God and the boys for listening and executing the instructions we gave them. Otherwise, we would not be here,” said Makgabutlane.
He said competing in the regional league was challenging because the team had to travel for away games, pay for the stadium and the match officials.
“Each player has to pop out R 200 monthly toward travel, venues and referees. However, that money does not cover all the team’s expenses.”
He said two unemployed coaches ran the team and had to administrate everything.
“Running a team while we are unemployed is costly. We end up taking money meant for our children at home to cover some costs. We would appreciate it if Good Samaritans could lend a helping hand and contribute whatever they can to help the team,” he concluded.
