Vosloorus gogos get blankets
“People have painted churches with a bad name. They say churches are collecting monies from people and pastors are enriching themselves, but it is not like that.”
Vosloorus senior citizens can now fight the cold winter after a generous donation of blankets by Redeeming the Time Evangelistic Ministries (RTEM) at Phase 2, Ext 28 on June 17.
RTEM spoilt at least 20 elderly citizens with two blankets in big and small sizes.
Pastor David Matlakala of RTEM said the church’s outreach was not limited to church members because it benefited the members of other churches like Zion, Faith Mission and Universal church.
He said churches were responsible for impacting, influencing and uplifting the communities they operate in.
“The main reason for us to do this was because people have painted churches with a bad name. They say churches are collecting monies from people and pastors are enriching themselves, but it is not like that,” he continued.
“The Bible encourages us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves. That is the most important thing. We do our work with the love of God in our hearts. God placed us at Ext 28 to pray for the community and respond to their needs,” said Matlakala.
Elizabeth Ntomzotwa Mavundla (75) said she was happy because she only had a light blanket, and it was cold at night.
“I am full of joy. I sleep so comfortably. May God bless the church leaders and help them grow their church so they can touch more lives,” said Mavundla.
Zodwa Elizabeth Ndaba (76) said the blankets came at a time of need because it was winter and nobody in the family was employed.
She said she was not a church member but was happy they considered her for this useful gift.
Gogo Sphiwe Myeni (70) also thanked RTEM and said she would use both blankets to stay warm at night.
Matlakala said they received support from the Menzi Mashatile Foundation. He noted that on June 29, the church would hand out food parcels.
