Katlehong senior citizens receive blankets

“There are elderly people who applied for houses a long time ago, but even today they do not have them.”

At least 580 Katlehong pensioners were spoiled with new blankets when Ward 58 Clr Mfundiso Fodo and other senior citizens organisations, along with government departments, met them at Green Field Hall on May 26.

According to Fodo, the programme focused on senior citizens as they are unable to attend public meetings because of various reasons.

Ward 58 Clr Mfundiso Fodo addresses senior citizens at Green Field Hall, on May 26.

He said they wanted to engage with the elderly and find out about their needs.

“The challenges raised by the senior citizens are normal problems that include the collection of medication at the clinic. They sometimes have problems with Sassa and challenges with payments.

He noted that the issue of indigents is also a challenge because they use to get 100 units of free electricity and 50 litres of water.

Local businesses contributed towards the Ward 58 Clr Mfundiso Fodo’s donation drive.

“They are complaining about expensive electricity.”

Fodo said the issue of indigents is being reviewed by the new executive members.

He said they will address the issues through the office of the speaker and relevant departments and he will try his level best to assist.

Elderly people who attended.

“There are elderly people who applied for houses a long time ago, but even today they do not have them. Others are affected by the issue of dual ownership,” he said.

Fodo thanked local businesses that assisted with blanket donations.
