Ehurhuleni metro allocates R285m towards intensifying the war on potholes

The city's multi-party coalition government allocates R285m to strengthening the war on potholes.

Residents of Ekurhuleni have had to face the misery of driving on dangerous, pothole-infested roads for far too long.

Finally, the City of Ekurhuleni has responded to this prolonged crisis by allocating R285m to help minimise the damage.

Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Tania Campbell, said: “We have responded to the calls from residents for the municipality to deliver the most basic of services. As such, I am glad to announce that the multi-party coalition government has allocated R285m towards intensifying the war on potholes in the city,” said Campbell.

The much-needed capital investment in road maintenance will improve investor confidence in the city and turn the roads into safe transportation infrastructure routes for the Ekurhuleni people to enjoy.

“The campaign will take place throughout the city, with the goal of catching up on the service delivery backlog left by our predecessors.

By the end of the current financial year, the city’s Department of Roads and Stormwater expects to have patched 82 500 square metres of potholes.”

The mayor said that she highly urges residents to report potholes through the My Ekurhuleni app or by calling the city’s call centre.

“We will continue conducting oversight visits to pothole hotspots across the city, to ensure work is being done to service residents,” Campbell concluded.
