Villa FC defender feels the team is ready to go pro

He can play in any position. even when required to switch positions during the match, he complies and applies instructions.

Left-back defender Sifiso ‘Fire’ Twala (24) has been with Villa Development FC for almost a decade since he left his first club, Benny FC.

The 24-year-old was born in Katlehong but left to start his schooling career in Mpumalanga, only to return when he was doing grade three.

According to Twala, he grew up playing soccer but only formally joined his first team in 2009, when Benny FC’s head coach asked him to join the team after seeing them playing soccer on the streets.

He later moved from the team in 2013 when he officially joined Villa FC.

“I was looking for a team that was competing in the league because at Benny FC we were only playing in betting completions.

“I became more serious when I joined Villa because there are no opportunities in my area, they are more focused on gambling. I was looking for a team that would help me progress,” said Twala.

He said he obtained his first medal with Villa after winning a tournament at Somhlobo and has contributed to the success of the club in tournaments and league games.

“I love soccer because is it refreshing when we are playing. We forget all our problems. I enjoy the relationship and support structure I have with other players,” he said.

Twala said his wish is to play in the professional league with his teammates.

Villa FC currently competes in the Katlehong Local Football Association (KALFA) Super League.

“Our wish is to reach the play-offs and if we win can be promoted to play in the SAB Castle League/ We were very close to making it in the past two consequtive years.”

“We are currently on number one but it scares me is that we often make small mistakes.

“The difference between us and the team on the second position is seven points. We lost our match on Sunday and now lead by four points,” said Twala.

He said the team has to push to win the seven remaining matches to avoid a repeat of last year.

Villa FC concluded the super league in the second position in the past two seasons. They hold the championship title of the first annual Kathorus MAIL knockout tournament.

Villa FC head coach Kutso Tsotetsi described Twala as a versatile and loyal player to the club, who is dedicated and able to follow instructions.

He said when Twala was a striker when he joined the team, but he currently plays left-back for the club.

However, he can play in any position even when required to switch positions during the match – he complies and apply instructions.
