Thutopele Secondary School’s current best learner rewarded

Kgaphola spends most of the time at home studying and practising mathematics and accounting after school

Sontonga Mall Shopping Centre (SMSC) spoiled a top-performing Grade 12 learner at Thutopele Secondary School with a shopping voucher valued at R500 on April 13.

The school named Oratile Kgaphola (17) as its best learner.

Kgaphola’s class and accounting teacher Makgati Mohlala said this year’s group of Grade 12 learners is the most competitive.

She mentioned that there are a lot of learners who are doing well in all streams, however, Kgaphola has been the most consistent in all subjects.

Kgaphola said she spends most of the time at home studying and practising mathematics and accounting after school until late evening.

Her mother Evelin Kgaphola told Kathorus MAIL that she always encourages her daughter to focus on her studies.

“There is always time to do something and right now is time for her to focus on her education so that she can have a better future. The time for her to have fun will come and it will be great because she will be an educated and independent woman,” said Kgaphola.

The chairperson of the school governing body, Moses Nzimande, said the school is grateful for the gesture by the mall to support the learner.

“We will ensure that educators and parents in particular ensure that we do not lose track of the performance of this child,” said Nzimande.
