Vosloorus stakeholders continue with GBV talks in schools

The school talk was based on gender-based violence, substance abuse and bullying taking place at schools.

Lethulwazi Secondary School learners received sanitary towels from the SAPS and various NPOs during the school talk about gender-based violence (GBV), substance abuse and bullying at Extension 10, Vosloorus, on February 23.

According to Vosloorus SAPS communications officer Cst Nompumelelo Nhlapo, the talk was meant to engage with the learners to guide them about the choices they make, safety tips, drugs, alcohol abuse, school safety and different types of GBV.

The stakeholders included Vosloorus SAPS Social Crime Prevention, communications officer, Keep a Girl Child in School, SANCA, Ekupholeni Organisation, Ithemba Community Organisation, GBV Brigades, Vosloorus Spruitview, Business against Crime and Community Safety.

Vosloorus SAPS Social Crime Prevention along with various NPOs conduct school talks to raise awareness about GBV, substance abuse and bullying.

Along with an ex-drug addict who spoke about his experiences, they handed over sanitary towels to girls who are from disadvantaged families.

“The school children were encouraged to focus on their books to better themselves and to report any suspicious activity, which will assist with information to prevent and solve crime in the area and school premises,” said Nhlapo,
