EDEN PARK – Riding in Eden Park after dark can easily end in disaster for unsuspecting motorists as road signs are all but invisible and gaping potholes litter many roads.

The council dug up one half of Datsun Street to repair water pipes and did a dreadful job filling it, leaving one half unusable. Only one car can pass at a time and some cars just drive on the grass. Covair Street in front of Eden Park Primary is covered with potholes, and the street in front of Eden Park High is no better. Tritonia Street in Palmridge is filled with deep holes that will one of these days stretch right across if not attended to soon.

Open land in Eden Park poses a big health risk as these areas are used as dumping sites. People can be seen rummaging through open rubbish dumps posing a big health risk

“Council officials say they cannot come up with a solution for this problem and fines cannot be issued due to a shortage of fine books,” says Councillor Vicky Lawrence. The illegal dumping increases since council is not honouring their waste removal schedule. Vicky suggests that large skips are placed at strategic spots to help reduce this problem.

Sewage is seen flowing down many streets as the existing infrastructure is not maintained and aging rapidly, leaving an unpleasant odour wherever you go. The storm water drain tops are broken or stolen, leaving dangerous gaping holes waiting for an accident to happen.

The Lungile Mtshali project workers often don’t have transport leaving suburbs dirty.

The stop sign at the Peterson and Abraham T-junction is non-existent, posing a real threat to drivers not familiar to the area. Very few visible road markings can be seen in the Eden Park and Palmridge area, making it dangerous for motorists and pedestrians alike.

DA Councillors Samantha Nair and Vicky Lawrence placed these complaints before the Town Council a long time ago, but very little has been done.
