Ekurhuleni wins internal audit award

The awards are held annually to recognise and support internal auditors who uphold the fundamental tenets of the profession.

The City of Ekurhuleni scooped the Internal Audit Excellence Award in the Public Sector Category in this year’s Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA) Awards.

The award was received by the head of the department for internal audit in the City, Lindiwe Hleza.

The awards are held annually to recognise and support internal auditors who uphold the fundamental tenets of the profession, the code of ethics and the international standards for the professional practice of internal auditing.

The City was recognised for, among others:

• Assisting management in the assessment of risk, providing control assurance and promoting good corporate governance.

• Building strong relationships that support a high level of trust and credibility.

• Building a partnership with management and the Audit Committee.

• Being instrumental in introducing innovative audit tools, techniques or methodologies in his/her organisation.

• Displaying a high level of integrity and promoting an ethical culture.

“This is extremely exciting for the City and it adds to the many accolades we have collected in the area of good governance and service delivery over the years. It is an early Christmas gift for us and congratulations to the team for doing such great work,” said city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi.
