Vosloorus residents receive food parcels

Eastgate raised about R300 000 towards helping to rebuild the nation.

Gift of the Givers, with Eastgate Mall and the Zalisidinga African Traditional Council (ZATC), recently donated food parcels to 10 family members in Vosloorus Extension 28.

This is part of the mall’s efforts to support the rebuilding of the national project following the unrests that have swept away the jobs and businesses of many citizens in July.

According to Gift of the Givers project manager Tapiwa Marima, Eastgate raised about R300 000 towards helping to rebuild the nation.

Gift of the Givers arrives at the home of Principal Chief Godfrey Fanie of the Zalisidinga African Traditional Council (ZATC) at Vosloorus Extension 28.

“They are concentrating on the east side of Johannesburg. It is regarded as a Covid relief project because they understand that people have lost jobs due to the pandemic.”

He said they work with the office of the ZATC chief and NGOs to identify deserving families from disadvantaged backgrounds because they are within the community and know the poverty-stricken families without any source of income.

Vosloorus families received food parcels.

“We chose Vosloorus because most of the residents were badly affected by looting. When you look at the demography of the community, most of the people are unemployed, most are senior citizens and people who cannot find employment,” said Marima.

He said this is a continuous project and it is conducted by many businesses in an effort to rebuild the nation, especially in poverty-stricken communities.

At least 10 families received food parcels in Vosloorus Extension 28.
