Facelifted VW Tiguan Allspace unveiled as a seven seater bruiser

Slated to launch at a later stage after the standard Tiguan, the Allspace will be offered in three trim levels; Tiguan, Life and R-Line.

That didn’t take Volkswagen that long to finally pull back the covers off its Tiguan Allspace variant weeks after the standard SUV made its online debut.

Slated to launch at a later stage after the standard Tiguan, the Allspace will be offered in three trim levels; Tiguan, Life and R-Line.

Speaking of dimensions, the Tiguan Allspace has grown in length, thanks to the redesigned front end, it now measures 4 723 mm – an increase of 22 mm. The interior dimensions remain unchanged.

With the third row of seats up, the Allspace luggage compartment is 700 – 1 755 litres. Folding down the third row of seats enables 760 to 1 920 litres worth of boot space.

Inside, the Tiguan Allspace is similar to the standard model. It comes fitted with a new steering wheel, digital air conditioning functions and for the first time, an optional Harman Kardon sound system with a 16-channel amplifier, eight speakers and a subwoofer.

The exterior is bolstered with a new bumper, radiator grille that incorporates wider LED headlights while the rear end spawns the Tiguan lettering placed below the VW badge.

It remains to be seen if the equipment lurking in the standard Tiguan will be the same in the Allspace but for reference sake, the base model is fitted with standard features such as 17-inch Montana alloy wheels, LED headlights, leather multi-function steering wheel, cruise control and the new MIB3 Infotainment system’s Composition radio (with eight speakers).

The Life trim upgrades to standard 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels, LED headlights with cornering lights, Climatronic air conditioning, Park Distance Control in the front and rear as well as an electric tailgate Optional alloy wheels on the Tiguan Life include 18-inch Nizza and 19-inch Victoria Falls.

The R-Line is fitted with an R-Line exterior package that adds 19-inch Valencia alloy wheels, ambient lighting with 30 interior lighting options, Vienna leather seats with the R-line Logo in the two front seats, Active Info Display, Composition Media Radio with App-Connect, multi-functional steering wheel with touch and swiping actions and the R-line logo as well as keyless entry.

Optional alloy wheels on the R-Line derivative are the 20-inch Suzuka alloy wheels in chrome and black.

Powering the standard Tiguan range are a choice of three engines, 1.4 TSI, 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI.

A sole 2.0-litre TDI engine with 130 kW and 380 Nm paired to a seven-speed DSG transmission enables the SUV to hurtle from a stop to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds before maxing out at 207 km/h.

The range-topping variant comes in the form of a 2.0-litre TSI engine with 162 kW and 350 Nm. This model requires 6.5 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h  while its top speed is capped at 225 km/h.

The transmission comes courtesy of a seven-speed DSG gearbox.
